Winter World by A.G. Riddle
Book Review by Kristine Madera
With our own world focused on global heating, the premise of an earth that was not only cooling but rapidly freezing was a refreshing idea on a hot summer’s day. The world turned out to be freezing because an alien species was stealing our sun’s solar energy, and the person most able to help figure out how to reverse it is James Sinclair, an inventor imprisoned for underestimating the reaction to his cutting-edge inventions. Along with other very smart people, including Dr. Emma Matthews, who is already in space and barely surviving when the ISS is destroyed, Sinclair lays it all on the line to save humanity—at least for the time being since this is the first book in a trilogy.
This book has everything a satisfying summer read must have for my own unique brand of geek—a compelling premise, enough tech/science to be interesting, likable characters, a plot that (mostly) speeds along, fresh ideas that challenge the current paradigm, and a unique way of looking at and solving our most pressing challenges. Riddle is now on my rotating list of authors to BOLO for!
